Summer Slumbers

Sleepinghogger In my last post, I had made mention that Breezy was in summer "hybernation".

I received an email from one a member of regular season champions The Lost Generation today (I say "member" because I'm not sure Don Rysavy wants me to mention any names) that stated the official term for an animal going into a dormant state in the summer is called "estivation".

For the effort, I am awarding the standard 79 bonus points for any corrections to sleeping animal blog post comments...

...let me punch that into the system...

...the new leade....wait...nevermind.  They still lost BY ONE POINT!  Damn.  Missed it by THAT much.

I am, however, going to use this as a future trivia questions, so MAKE NOTE of this answser.  "Estivation" will be back.  Someday.  Somehow.  Somewhere.  And to answer the thought in your head right now, "no, it won't have anything to do with Charlie Sheen or his brother".

Have I mentioned lately that we have the greatest team trivia players on the planet?  If not, I just did.

Team Trivia Results for Week #4 of our Summer Season

Xanadu Discovery Channel has Storm Chasers.  The World Trivia Tour has Trivia Chasers.  4 teams braved the elements to make Team Trivia Night Week #4 in our summer season another great one.  It was another tight competition from our top 4 teams as the lead traded places a few times throughout the evening.  It came right down to the "Cereal Killer" (thank you Dave Thompson) round where the Zipperheads "finished the bowl and drank the milk" with a perfect round.  It was enough to give them their second victory in 4 weeks.  They have been trading off with regular season champs, The Lost Generation.  It should make it a very interesting fall season with these four teams in the mix.  The A-Team scored the bad of Smarties, but blame it on the absence of Breezy (who has slipped into a summer hybernation).

Tonight's musical fruit round proved to be huge as it was not only the drink round, but also the double trouble round (240 point questions).  To make things even more interesting, Meredith had the smarts to ask for double drinks.  We made it so.  It was a wild ride for sure.  The Zipperheads tooks the drinks and festive patriotic Leis.

Community Bulletin Board:

In a new feature to the Hogger Blog, we are also going to give our trivia family a chance to make announcements and share important events in their lives.  We appreciate the support they give to the World Trivia Tour and just want to return the love a little bit.  If you would like to share anything with the group (or the world) simply email me: scott@wildinspire.com with the details and I would be happy to post it for you.  Here is our first announcement:

Clyde Bauman has extended an invitation for all trivia players and their families to check out The 4M Revue in Medora, ND this summer.  Medora's Music, Magic and Mirth is a "must see" when you visit Medora.  "For more than 20 years the 4-M Revue has been entertaining audiences in Medora! This vaudeville-style show features the 'Magician Mayor' and the 'King of Rock 'N Roll', Mylo Hatzenbuhler."  You can get more details at http://www.medora.com/attractions/4mreview.html.  If you haven't heard Clyde sing, you really need to.  You can see more of Mylo's offerings at www.farmboymusic.com.

Thanks again for joining us at the Elks Lodge.  We look forward to next month on July 29th at 7pm.  You can check out all our schedules and information at www.worldtriviatour.com.

If you are interested in joining us form some Team Trivia, come on down to the Elks Lodge. We play on the deck starting at 7 pm. Audio and Visual rounds plus bonus prize rounds, as usual.

See you there. Game On!

  • Tuesday June 24 @ 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday July 29 @ 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday August 26 @ 7:00 pm (will kick off our regular weekly schedule for the fall/winter!)

We hope that you have a safe summer.  Keep watching movies, reading books, listening to music and talking about the past.  As you are working on that perfect BBQ recipe, pay close attention to ingredients.  ;)

Believe in Basketball Jesus!

Larrybird_thebasketballjesus_2Here is an article backing up one of our more surprising visual answers.  I have had many people ask...is that really true?

I think a more important question would be "What Would Basketball Jesus Do? (WWBJD)

Seek and ye shall find the truth of "The Basketball Jesus"...

Here is the article that mentions the nickname...

Go forth and study...

Team Trivia "In the Summertime"...

I know, I know...you are probably trying to figure out the name of Mungo Jerry and are singing along to that awesome summer hit when you read that headline.  I was too.

Just an update for all members of our Team Trivia Family, there will be trivia this Tuesday night.  I have had a couple of teams ask since we just finished up our ten week session.

We will run Team Trivia nights every Tuesday night at the Elks Lodge until late May and then take it to Once a month during June, July and August (dates/times to be announced soon).  We will actually be doing the trivia OUTSIDE on the deck!

Then starting in late August or early September, we will resume our weekly affair and kick off another 10 week session for faboulous prizes and general mayhem!

See you Tuesday!

Elks Lodge #1199 - 4/15/08 Team Trivia Results

Beachballgroucho The 2008 Winter Team Trivia Night season has crowned its champion!  Congratulations (once again) to The Lost Generation, who took 8 of the 10 weeks, and walked away with another notch on the Osmond belt.

The race for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th was as tight as it gets with just a couple of hundred points seperating those teams.  Once again, the A-Team shouldered their way to the second consecutive runner-up position.  What a team!  They have mustered through each week with a consistent performance that was tough to match.  They also provided some of the most "punny" responses to boot.  The Lifeguards of the Gene Pool hiked up their speedos and held on for dear life as they bested Reasonably Clean for the 3rd place spot.  Not only were they one of the only teams to defeat The Lost Generation (the other was XYZ), but they also took the brunt of the jokes as they proved, time and time again, that they were there to have fun.  They have earned the nickname "Stephen" in our trivia family.  Just ask them about it.

Also taking the top spot for most question answered and most hoggers was The Lost Generation.  For complete results, check out the Overall Season Leaderboard  for complete standing for each team throughout the season.

We sincerely thank each team for the personalities they bring to the table.  DJR2 & Friends and Power Up are proving quickly to be the "Fun Bunch", with unexpected twists, turns and "costumes".  Even the Lifeguards brought beach prizes for the other teams!  They put a smile on the faces of the crowd for sure.

We look foward to a fun summer and then heating up the competition in the fall as we kick off another 10 week session.

We want to sincerely thank our generous sponsors, who provided all of our great prizes for this 10 week session.  Hollywood Video, Sociale Gourmet, Dakota Zoo and Cookies For You are top notch in our book.  Please make sure to thank them the next time you do business with them.

See you next week for a regular round of trivia, once again!

Elks Lodge #1199 - 4/8/08 Team Trivia Results

Lapetomane They did it AGAIN!  The Lost Generation once again made an audio and visual comeback in the last rounds to steal a victory away from the Zipperheads.  The Zips owned the top of the leaderboard all evening following round #1.  Proving to be one of the new "teams to beat", they put The Lost Generation to the test once again, with only 4 people on their roster (same number as The Lost Generation).    They answered the call to take their 7th victory in the first 9 weeks of competition during this 2008 winter session.  This will be fun rivalry to watch.

Also having a good night was Reasonably Clean with a late season surge to keep them in the running for a top 3 spot.  Right now The A-Team and the Lifeguards have a hold on spots #2 and #3, respectively.  Next week could prove crucial.  Don't forget that we are only taking the top 8 weeks for each team, so the Leaderboard could be a LOT closer than it looks...then again...maybe the distance will grow.  Only time will tell.

Tonight we ramped up the questions a little to increase the odds of "hoggers" now that we are down to the last two weeks.  The teams responded with SIX hoggers on the evening (3 of them going to The LG).

Next week will be very interesting to see how those top three spots roll out.  Still anyone's game for the 2nd and 3rd spots.  The Lost Generation looks to have another championship locked in with a 4,000+ point lead.

Have a great week and we will see you for the finals next week.

Elks Lodge #1199 - 4/1/08 Team Trivia Results

Dolly200 Talk about "Ephen Steven"!

No...it wasn't because the Lifeguards finally took home a bag of Smarties and gave us the most memorable "StePHen" quote of the evening.

It boiled down to the race to the finish line.

Tonight's team trivia event at the Elks Lodge #1199 was one for the history books.  Here's a sample.

  • 8 Teams and a record number of 61 people packed the deck
  • We welcomed a new team "The Zipperheads".  Not new to trivia by a long shot.  Can you say "Old School"?  This team is legendary.  They played with only three people.  (Read on)
  • The Zipperheads led by 59 points going into the last round.  The Lost Generation came back in the last round (thanks to a 60 point question) and squeeked a victory by a SINGLE POINT!
  • New theme round:  Stephen or Steven.
  • We finally worked in "The Osmonds"!

All in all it was a great night.  The buzz and chatter amongst the teams was electric.  This is the greatest bunch of trivia heads I have met.  What a blast.  Thanks for making it so.

You can find the updated leader board on our website at www.worldtriviatour.com.

Don't forget to "eat your Wheaties".  Hint.  Hint.

See you all next week for Round 9 of 10!

Elks Lodge #1199 - 3/25/08 Team Trivia Results

Cat_2  From the World Trivia Tour book of Haikus:  "Black Bird (merlot?)...NO!!..WAIT!!...a blue stadium! (shea?)...teams guess...some right...some right less...Smarties won...Smarties lost...where's my hogger?"

Congratulations to The Lost Generation for another solid performance (51 out of 60 correct) on the evening.  Proving that they are truly a trivia force.

The A-Team matched a couple of perfect rounds with them tonight, but it was one of the few hoggers on the evening that helped out the LG.

We sincerely appreciate all of the players and teams that make the Tuesday Team Trivia Night at the Elks Lodge #1199 part of their weekly routine.  We love to watch the fun that this trivia-family has pounding through the nightly rounds.

Each team with it's unique personality and each leaving their own unique mark on this game.  What a blast you are.

The updated season leader board can be found on our website at www.worldtriviatour.com.  Also download the round/question results to see what each question was worth.  We are now tracking Hoggers for our new G.I. Joe Hogger Hero Award.  Right now it's a very very tight race for that campaign.

Elks Lodge #1199 - 3/18/08 Team Trivia Results

Sagemoonbloodstallone We will forever label tonight's contest  "Rocky 7: Sage Against the Machine."

The Lifeguards of the Gene Pool waded from their post in the shallow end to deliver a knock-out punch in the 6th and final round.  Their victim?  None other than the Ivan Drago of trivia teams; The Lost Generation.  (Note: I'm not implying that The Lost Generation are a bunch of roided-up, crazed Russian trivia freaks that tear through opponents like Spinal Tap goes through drummers...I mean, I doubt any of them are Russian.)

It was a hogger on Sage Moonblood, son of Sylvestor Stallone that did it.

An impressive sidenote is that the A-Team, stumbled out of the starting blocks with a goose-egg in the first round and then battled all the way back to a 3rd place finish on the evening.  What a performance!  They were actually in second place after round 2!  They win the "playing with one round tied behind our back" award for the night.  Great job.

Thank you, once again, to all of the teams that joined us.  We look foward to our time with you each and every week.

You can find the results and leader board on our official site at http://www.worldtriviatour.com/

Don't forget to check out this week's episode of Trivia Gumbo at http://www.triviagumbo.com/. You have until this Thursday night at midnight to submit your answers. Congratulations to Kara Seibel as she picked up her prize and bonus book (for establishing a mini-two-week-dynasty, including the second perfect score ever recorded). There will be more prizes to come. It's free to play. Please pass the link along to any other trivia junkies you might know.  Note:  Starting this Friday, there will be at least one question from each Trivia Gumbo podcast episode (going forward) that will be included in the upcoming weekly contest.  So here is your chance to do some research.  Who knows, it might be for a "hogger-level" question.  If you want a reminder, you can simply sign up for the Trivia Gumbo podcast to have it delivered right to your inbox.

The G.I. Joe Hogger Hero Leader Board stands as follows:

The Lost Generation = 9
The A-Team = 7
Lifeguards of the Gene Pool = 6
Reasonably Clean = 4
XYX = 3
DRJ2 & Friends = 2

Until next week...Game On!

Elks Lodge #1199 - 3/11/08 Team Trivia Results

Usgdayfrontpix_2

It's a G'day for the World Trivia Tour!

Wow! What an exciting night of team trivia at the ol' Elks Lodge #1199 tonight!

Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • We set a record number for players (51) with only 7 teams playing!
  • We officially became the "World" Trivia Tour as we were joined by the Australia Duo of Aubrey and Martin Beggs! They are in the U.S. touring with the Australian Kaleidoscope program in schools. It was an honor to have these fine gentlemen join us for a night of trivia! They became official "Lifeguards of the Gene Pool" (Speedos not included)
  • DRJ2 & Friends hammered a perfect round in the Whiz Bang Stuff (including a Hogger!)
  • The Lost Generation continued their dominating performance with their 4th victory in first 5 weeks.
  • Tonight we announced the creation of the "G.I. Joe Hogger Hero" award that will be given out at the end of each ten week session to the team with the most hoggers for that session. The tie-breaker will be the team that had the earliest hogger in the session.
You can find the results and leader board on our official site at http://www.worldtriviatour.com/

Don't forget to check out this week's episode of Trivia Gumbo at http://www.triviagumbo.com/. You have until this Thursday night at midnight to submit your answers. Trivia Sweetness...Week #4 is in the bag. I can't wait until Wheaties released the official G.I. Joe carrier pigeon box! Talk about your trivia moment there! Ok...back to business.

Once again, the deck was packed and it was a very tight race right to the end. The Lost Generation logged their 3rd victory in 4 weeks. There are several teams that are coming on strong. It will be an interesting finish to this season.

It was good to see the Purple Cheese back again.

The results can be found at http://www.worldtriviatour.com/

We have started to track another statistic tonight and will be awarding a prize for the team with the most Hoggers during the 10 week session! Here is the currently tally after week #4:

The Lost Generation - 7
The A-Team - 5
The Lifeguards of the Gene Pool - 3
XYZ - 3

Elks Lodge #1199 - 2/26/08 Team Trivia Results

Pigeonhero_2 Hi everyone,

I have updated the 2008 Winter Session - Week #3 results and they can be found each week on the website following the contest.

We want to officially welcome our two new teams: "Power Up" and "Johnny Dangerous McDanger and His Electric Little Helpers".

We officially set a WTT record last night with 50 people packed into the deck. It was great to see all of you. Great energy.

One quick update to the scoring from last night. In the visual trivia, we gave all teams credit for Question #3. I was brought to our attention that "cassiopea" is not a sign of the zodiac but it is a constellation. It was an oversight on our part and we appreciate the correction (as always). We felt that this was an unfair mislead on our part and thus gave credit to all teams. The scores have been adjusted, althought I don't think any leader board positions changed.

We look forward to seeing you all again next week for Week #4!

A quick announcement for all of you who might need a trivia fix over the weekend, we are officially launching Trivia Gumbo on Friday, which is the official podcast of the World Trivia Tour! Take a listen and fill out the answer form. Spread the word. It will be another opportunity for you to earn some prizes. In fact, as an incentive...starting in a week or so, I will include one or two questions from the upcoming week in there as a clue, so you will have one or two answers for the following week just for playing!!

Take care and as always...Game On!
